“Labs,” as they are affectionately known, are the most popular dog breed in the world.  Originally from Newfoundland, Labs worked alongside fishermen and were bred primarily to perform as efficient retrievers of game.  They have great desire to please, a characteristic that allows them to excel as guide dogs and in law enforcement.  Kind to children, friendly to people and other animals, energetic, Labs will play fetch for hours or lie quietly on the family room floor as a pillow for the kids.
