This Roman vs Greek chess set is hand painted in Rosewood and Ivory and comes packed in individual boxes and foam protection for each colour.

 

Depicts Gaius Julius Caesar as the King for the Romans. He was the leader of the Roman Empire in 49 BC. He conquered most of Europe, Gaul [France], Spain, and Britain .on return to Rome was assassinated in 44 BC. Caesar is opposed by Alexander as the King for the Greeks. He inherited the Greek throne from his Father King Phillip of Macedon at age of 20 (around 300 BC) He went on to conquer the Persian Empire and married the dead King's Daughter. He had the largest empire ever but stopped short of India and returned to die of a disease in Persia in 323 BC. Rome and Greece fought each other many times in history.

 

The bottoms are felted. Kings are 4.5" in height with a base of 1.5". This set is suitable for a 15 inch board with 1.75 inch squares. Chess board is not included.

 

All pieces were cast in Hydrostone (a trademark of the United States Gypsum Corporation), a reconstituted stone material used by sculptors. The pieces were hand-painted to resemble aged ivory, given several coats of acrylic varnish, and then coated with a museum-grade paste wax to enhance their appearance and feel.
